Born during one of the hottest heat waves. Raised in Bristol with two older Sisters, Kerry and Corinne.
It didn’t take long for Kyra to learn she was a performer.
By the age of 5 she knew what she wanted to be and since that
time, has never stepped off track.
Unlike a majority of people in showbiz, Kyra doesn’t come
from a particularly musical background. Regardless of her large
family enjoying music and some of them being good singers, the
foundation for music and performance was probably influenced more
from family traits that have long been proudly deep-seated.
Kyra’s parents of course love music, and have always been
extremely supportive however, they had no idea she would become
the dedicated entertainer she is today although, to think that
Kyra could turn out a conventional girl would have been quite
impossible to believe. Her Father used to hop around the house
with Classical music playing in his wireless headphones (he’d
often film himself doing this) then he’d blare out ‘Black
Sabbath.’ He always told Kyra to keep an open mind when
it came to music. Her Father was and still is an extreme extrovert
- he is a very determined man and when he sets his mind to something,
it’s a good as done. His determination to master random
projects has certainly rubbed off on Kyra. Intrigued by Gnosticism,
she reads as much Mythology, History and Paranormal material as
possible and finds it a great influence for her song writing.
Her Mother was the lead singer in a band and Kyra was nominated
tambourine player for rehearsals. She could have quite happily
taken the spotlight herself. Kyra’s Grandfather was also
a singer and still singing well into his eighties. Melody came
from her Mother’s side.
Kyra’s Father is undeniably the main focal point for her
determination. “Always be the best at what you do and never
give up.” However clichéd, the verve these words
were instilled and perceived from such a young age certainly determined
the depth Kyra would take them on board.
It is often said that Kyra could quite be the reincarnation of her paternal Grandmother Peggy. She was an eccentric lady and a unique artist. She painted with her fingers or pencil; wore odd socks, odd clothes and her customary thick black eyeliner. She unfortunately lost her hearing at a very young age. Kyra also enjoys doing pencil sketches in her spare time. Kyra believes that Peggy would have been a great singer as she also had a very powerful voice.
At age 8, Kyra passed an audition for the Bristol Royal Academy
of Music, Dance and Drama and enjoyed many years of Theatre Productions;
musicals; plays, and the odd television appearance.
Having mastered the basic chords on guitar Kyra began Piano lessons
and at age 12, she wrote ‘Dead Girl On Earth’ and
8 other songs to go with it. Her Piano Teacher Gyseppi Bavetta
helped with the music and so Kyra Bernice had her first album.
By age 16, Kyra had sung with numerous bands, released a single
with a small Record Company, written lot’s more material
and taken a fancy to Bass playing. With a few instruments under
her belt all she needed was some recording equipment and so wangled
her first PA system. She soon had her first solo gig and began
saving for the things she’d need to work on her own projects.
Like many, Kyra has had her fair share of knock backs over the
years but nevertheless, is extremely proud of what she’s
achieved by herself and with the support of a great family. But
also - like many - she has dreams and no intention of leaving
them unlived.
“It all sounds so easy…Gods, I wish it was.”
